Michael J. Garofola is a member of MSF’s litigation group. Mr. Garofola is an experienced trial lawyer and investigator who focuses on representing corporations and individuals in white-collar criminal defense matters, regulatory enforcement actions, and internal investigations, as well as clients involved in complex commercial disputes.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Garofola served as General Counsel for a private international trade and export company, where he handled all legal issues and disputes facing the company. Before that, Mr. Garofola was a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice (an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida). During his tenure there, he prosecuted a variety of cases, including those involving money laundering and currency structuring, financial fraud, violent crimes, firearms offenses, child exploitation offenses, and large-scale international narcotics trafficking. He was also involved in cases that included cross-border law enforcement cooperation, frequently working with foreign agents and prosecutors during criminal investigations and proceedings.
Before his time as a prosecutor, Mr. Garofola practiced at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and at Kobre & Kim LLP, where he focused on cross-border internal investigations, securities law violations, pharmaceutical fraud, and multijurisdictional complex commercial disputes.
After law school, Mr. Garofola clerked for the Honorable Federico A. Moreno of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
