F. Frederic (Ric) Fouad is Of Counsel at MSF, Chair of the Japan Practice Group, and fluent in Japanese. With over three decades of Japan-related experience in litigation at trial and appellate levels across the U.S., a broad range of corporate work, extensive real estate matters, advising high-net worth individuals, as well as other areas, Mr. Fouad is among the nation’s most knowledgeable attorneys in Japan-U.S. matters.

Mr. Fouad draws on his substantial Japan-U.S. experience to coordinate with all MSF practice groups to deliver seamlessly integrated services to clients in a cost-effective manner. Whether it is complex commercial litigation, employment, M&A, tax work, trusts & estates, or virtually any other area, MSF’s non-siloed approach allows the Firm to serve Japanese clients globally and U.S. clients with Japan interests with maximum skill and efficiency, coordinated through the Japan Practice Group.

Mr. Fouad also advises on legal malpractice, legal ethics, and attorney disciplinary matters, and teaches legal ethics at Fordham Law and Temple School of Law (Tokyo Campus), splitting his time between Tokyo and New York. Mr. Fouad was also a 2009-2010 Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School. Mr. Fouad began his career at an international law firm in New York before serving in-house at Taisei Corporation (Tokyo) and, later, at Lexington Corporation (Tokyo and Memphis) and Spartus Capital Management (New York).

Mr. Fouad’s extensive pro bono practice includes assisting with refugee property rights restoration in post-civil war Sarajevo. He has also led a now 23-year effort to secure governance reforms of the $17 billion Hershey Trust, a charity serving disadvantaged children
